THE
PROJECT

SingTheWay is a project that aims to equip and inspire the climate movement with an accessible library of existing songs, poetry, and chants, from around the global climate movement – while at the same time, inviting and supporting the creation of new songs from artists around the world.

Why Climate
songs

We are living in epic times. As the world tips into the deepening Anthropocene, those of us alive today find ourselves in an unprecedented historical window where our collective ability to change the trajectory of history will impact the fate of all that lives.

The role of artists – for their experience creating things that do not yet exist- is needed as we collectively leave behind the world we have known and step into unchartered territories.

We are calling on singers, poets, and musicians to create short songs from which we can glimpse the possible worlds that await us, and conjure the diversity of worlds already being inhabited, and help us to glimpse the paths of how we may get there.

We want to equip and inspire the climate movement with an accessible library of existing songs, poetry, and chants, from around the global climate movement – while at the same time, inviting and supporting the creation of new songs from artists around the world.

We believe that music is world-building. We want to bring these songs into public actions around the world, to ground the movement in the complexity and gravity of the current moment, to deepen our connection to the sacred world that sings through us.

SingTheWay is a collaborative project led by a small team of artists and activists from The Artivist Network, The Movement Hub and Radish Radio around the world.

CALL FOR
ARTISTS

We are inviting artists, singers, poets, and musicians to share short songs or song-chants that engage issues relating to climate justice.

The idea is for these songs to be sung in protests, actions and marches – and to be short enough for people who hear them to be able to easily learn the words and melodies, remember them, and (ideally) teach them to others.

You can imagine these songs as “refrains” or “choruses” to longer songs, a single stand-alone element that is coherent in itself.

These songs can be new or traditional songs from your culture. They can tell stories, be poetic, use metaphors, or whatever else you feel is powerful. The idea is to move people’s souls, and for -when they sing it – for them to feel empowered in truth and collectivity.

Whatever we are doing to confront the climate crisis – it isn’t working. This time let’s fight with beauty.

Together, let’s sing the way forwards.
